THUNDER 2 - LOOMIS UNITED 1

The VV Thunder traveled to Loomis to take on the Loomis United. This game was played on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 10:30 AM. It was a cold and rainy morning, however the field was one of the best so far. We missed Rummit in this game. The competition level was definitely much higher in this game than in the first half of the "I" Division games. The VV Thunder proved worthy of the task at hand winning the game and remaining undefeated in the Metro League play.

It was another team effort from start to finish as the VV Thunder played a balanced game even though a couple of our players were not feeling well. The Thunder scored early on the game, surprising the home team. At the fourth minute into the game, Macy took a long offensive "throw in" toward Hazel on the right channel, after a quick and short run, Hazel crossed the ball to the left where Katie waited for the ball, after a short bounce, she just pushed the ball softly while on the air and placed it at the upper left corner to hit the back of the net.

The front line comprised of Hazel, Katie, Courtney and Lexi kept the pressure on throughout the first half. Lexi took the initiative to take shots at goal while Courtney continued to be the first defender on the right channel. Both Erica and Macy looked great with the pressing and some aggressive moves. Ashley Y had a nice steal to start one of the attacks in the first half. The midfield was solid all game. Erica played her best game of the year, looking very aggressive and focused. Erica also assisted on the winning goal. After a rebound and some passes at midfield, Erica took the ball and sent a long pass to the left, Katie anticipated the play and with a fast run left her defender trailing behind her. Katie then took a shot at goal beating the goalie for the second time. Katie's defender became her shadow and chased Katie all over the field. In addition, this defender showed bad sportsmanship when she kicked Katie without the ball several times, and even shot the ball at Katie before the restart of the play. Melinda and Beth were solid as usual, doing a nice job controlling the ball and setting up shots for the forwards.

It was another solid defensive effort from Ashley P, Tiger, Kat, Karina and Valerie. Beanie also contributed defensively on the second half, playing her best defensive game so far. The VV Thunder midfield won most of the 50/50 balls in the game. The Loomis team featured a strong, organized offensive attack with a lot of movement up front with the forwards constantly in motion, keeping the VV Thunder defenders on their toes. But the defenders- Ashley P, Tiger, Kat, Karina and Valerie- were up to the challenge, each player putting a great deal of effort that frustrated the Loomis throughout the match. As the season progresses, Valerie is getting more solid in her defensive play. Beanie played goalie in the first half, Ashley Y was our goalie in the second half. Both went to the distance in goal, with several saves including the partial blocking of a penalty kick by Ashley Y which eventually bounced off the horizontal bar.

What a GREAT season for the VV Thunder. So far we are undefeated: four wins, three ties, no losses. That cannot happen without great TEAMWORK. Everyone contributed to this win. Great Job VV Thunder !!!
